Cross-border grocery shopping haul

Lately, I’ve been making more frequent trips across the border. Most items there are generally less expensive than buying items here locally and I also like buying unique grocery items that I can’t buy here locally. In this post, I want to share with you my recent purchases.

This is a chocolate cream cheese spread by Kraft Philadelphia Indulgence from Target ($2.99). When I saw this, I had chocolate cheesecake on my mind.

When I opened it, it turned out to be a little softer and creamier than I expected. I tried it with grapes (yes, not the best combination but it was the only fruit I had at home and I didn’t have any bread or crackers to try it with). It tasted fine, wasn’t terrible but it’s definitely not like nutella. It didn’t have a very strong chocolate taste but at the same time, it wasn’t overpowered by cream cheese. I think it would go better with plain toast and if you are aiming for a light chocolate flavor (as opposed to nutella which is very rich and can be very heavy).

A colleague of mine introduced me to a bunch of goodies from Traders Joe, so I also made a visit to the grocery store last week to check this place out. I bought Pretzel Slims ($2.99) and a small jar of honey that came in a cute teddy bar design (also $2.99). When I first tried the pretzel slims, I was in love with it (and addicted)! I love the combination of pretzels and chocolate. I am not the biggest chocolate fan and never had a liking for dark chocolate either, but this was really good. The dark chocolate wasn’t too bitter and it was just right with the pretzel. And because it’s a ‘slim’, I felt like I was eating chocolate covered crackers. I definitely recommend this!

I am not quite how much cheaper yogurts are in the States but I bought 10 for $5 from Target because I noticed that they had some interesting flavors that I’ve never seen. The 3 that I want to point out is lemon burst, red velvet cake and orange creme. Lemon burst seemed like it was popular, according to the stock left on the shelf. But I bought it because I love lemon flavors in general. It tasted good and I would purchase it again. Red velvet cake was interesting. The color of the yogurt was a slight dark pink and it had a hint of red velvet cake flavor to it. It wasn’t terrible but I would stick to more ‘normal’ flavors next time. Orange creme was also interesting and again, it had a hint of orange creme flavor to it. I didn’t mind this too much because I also like orange flavors and in fact, I’ve been looking for an orange flavor yogurt but I have been very unsuccessful. The first and last time I had it was in a breakfast buffet in Whistler. It came in the usual white plastic container but at that time, I didn’t know it was that ‘rare’ so I didn’t note down the yogurt brand.

Cheddar jalapeno cheetos! I was introduced to this nearly 3 years ago by my American roomie. This is one item that I get almost every time I go to the States because I do have a liking for spicy snacks. I wish it came in the soft cheetos version though (this is a crunchy cheetos).

This is another must get item for me. I don’t think they sell this size in here either. I really like Snapple but it’s quite pricey for 1 glass bottle and even for a bulk size in Costco Canada. But this only costs $1.98 in Target.
